Richard Griffiths

Richard Griffiths angol színész volt. 1947. július 31-én látta meg a napvilágot. Thornaby-on-Tees-en, North Yorkshire-ban, Angliában született. Két fia, Jane és Thomas Griffiths Dániában született. Ő és testvére, John római katolikus hitre tértek. Mindkét szülője siket volt, így megtanulta a jelnyelvet már fiatal korában. Sokszor hiányzott az Our Lady & St. Bede Iskolából, gyakran el is szökött otthonról. Dolgozott a Porter Littlewoods-nál egy darabig, de a főnöke végül meggyőzte őt, hogy menjen vissza az iskolába. Úgy döntött, hogy beiratkozik egy dráma osztályra a Stockton & Billingham College-ba.

Legismertebb szerepe Vernon Dursley, Harry Potter című filmben, ahol maga a főszereplő nevelőapját játszotta. Megkapta a Laurence Olivier Awards-on a legjobb férfi mellékszereplőnek járó díjat, a Drama Desk Awards-on pedig a "kiemelkedő színész egy színdarabban" díjat zsebelte be. Az Outer Critics Circle Awards-on kiemelt színésznek járó trófeával díjazták, és egy Tony-díjban is részesült a The History Boys-ban való szerepléséért.

2013. március 28-án elhunyt szívműtéte következtében.
