Sudoku

Learn more about web Sudoku, the famous math puzzle. See the benefits of this game and learn to play!

Sudoku is one of the most popular mathematical logic hobbies, and chances are you've heard of it at some point.

The word Sudoku has Japanese origin, it is a simplification of the expression “suji wa dokushin ni kagiru”, which means “the numbers must be unique”.

The game consists of a 9-row and 9-column checkered table, which is divided into 9 blocks. The idea is to fill this table completely with numbers from 1 to 9.

But there are some rules for this:

- Numbers cannot be repeated on lines;
- Numbers cannot be repeated in columns;
- Numbers cannot be repeated in each block.

There are several levels in the game, it depends on the amount of squares that are left to be filled and the arrangement of these numbers on the table.

Next, we'll see the step by step of a free online Sudoku for beginners.

Where to start solving a Sudoku?

We look for rows, columns or blocks where fewer numbers are missing. Note that in the sixth block and the seventh row, only the number 1 is missing. We will start by filling in these two squares!

First step to solve Sudoku

Now, notice that in the last column there are only 2 squares to be completed and the remaining numbers are 3 and 7.

We can't fill in the first one with the number 7, as you can see that the first line already has a number 7.

So the first square will be the 3, and the 7 will be in the under square.

Second step to solve Sudoku

Let's go to the second block. It only lacks two numbers, the 1 and the 8. The 8 cannot be on the third line, as it already has an 8. So, the only option is for the 1 to remain there.

Third step to solve Sudoku

As you can see, whenever we intend to fill a square, we must observe all the numbering of the row, column and block to which that square belongs.

Since we cannot repeat numbers, the solution can be found by elimination.

How about you try to find the next number? Let's give you a hint, try to find the number in the first row and eighth column.

Note that the numbers 1, 4, and 9 are missing from the first row. Which of these numbers is not in the eighth column?

Solving Sudoku

It is important to remember that while the solution is unique, there may be more than one way to get to it.

The more Sudoku games you solve, the more beast you will become, as you will create your own game strategies.

Let's leave the Sudoku solution for you to check.

Sudoku is a number puzzle that, although played for over 100 years, got its current form and name in Japan in the early 1980s. Sudoku is quite similar to a crossword puzzle with the difference that you form number combinations instead of words. Sudoku quickly became popular around the world and today most newspapers have a sudoku crossword puzzle in their daily editions. It is also possible to play sudoku online for those who want to get some brain exercise as there is a while left on the bus, coffee break or at the checkout line. You can play sudoku online with your computer, tablet or mobile phone, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Once you have chosen which page you want to play sudoku online on, you can usually choose which level of difficulty you want to play on. The easiest ones usually have many numbers exposed already in the boxes, which makes it easier but also faster to solve a online sudoku crossword puzzle. If you want to get bigger challenges, you can also find very complicated sudoku that takes a long time to solve and also requires a lot of thought to keep track of all parts of the crossword puzzle. A regular sudoku consists of nine columns with nine rows divided into 9 boxes. In each row and column, fill in the numbers 1-9. Each number can only be used once in each row, each column and in each box. This means that a certain logic is required to put together a sudoku crossword puzzle. Usually a sudoku has numbers pre-filled, usually 17 or more, which gives you some help along the way in figuring out which numbers are missing in each column, row and box. You can also play sudoku online without a single pre-filled number where you can build all the number combinations yourself.
