Question of what is my screen resolution can be a complex one.

The shift to high-resolution displays does not stop at 4K. 27-inch displays (5120 x 2880 pixels/16:9) that support 5K are already being marketed. The question is what to use the very high resolution of 5K for, but there is the advantage of being able to place toolbars and other elements on the screen while viewing 4K content with video editing software.

As screen resolutions get higher, a new element to consider when selecting a screen is pixel density. Pixel density on displays is an indication of the level of resolution, and the value is usually expressed in ppi. Ppi stands for "pixels per inch" (not per square inch). One inch is equivalent to 2.54 centimeters.

Retina monitors, sold by Apple are generally recognized as having a physical pixel density greater than 200 pixels per inch (PPI). This means that they have twice the pixel density of a classic resolution computer monitor. Smartphones and tablets are the main drivers of this trend due to their low cost and high pixel density, which is usually above 250 PPI.   Pixel density has become an important factor in choosing a product. Our topic is the transition to high pixel density screens, including trends in the latest technology.
