Oldest Church In India: The Palayur Church

History Of Palayur Church:
Let's back to the history of Christianity which belongs to Jesus Christ, who appointed 12 apostles to propagate Christianity across the world and they were sent into different directions of the world. Thomas Didaemu, one of the 12 apostles, is believed to have landed at Craganore (Musiris) in Kerala in 52 A.D. Thomas Didaemus did whatever he was told. For the first time, a large number of Hindus and Jews have embraced Christianity at Palayur town at present it is a part of Trichur District in Kerala. Thus, a small church has been erected here with alter that was used to consecrate.
The palayur church is believed to be one of the oldest churches in India which are located in the same place with pride and glorious history. With the passage of time, reverend fen chi encircled this church with wooden walls but later on, it has been destroyed with time. But the original alter still existed at the same site which was consecrated by St. Thomas.
In order to promote Christianity in India or other parts of the world, St Thomas had to move to and fro. At first, he moved to Madras (known as Chennai) in 64 A.D. After coming back from China, he settled down in Mylapore. But, St. Thomas became a part of the conspiracy and moved to nearby hills but was killed there. Now, the hill where he died is known as St.Thomas Mount which is visited by a large number of Christian communities every year.
