Stick to your niche and apply experience

If you are a digital marketer who focuses on content in your business, write about content. Do you do video marketing? Write about it.

True experts are narrowly focused and tend to stay on track.

The key to expert knowledge is pretty simple: you really have to be an expert in what you're talking about. If you write professionally on several topics, you run the risk of "confusing" readers, and search engines will not be able to adequately evaluate the expertise.

There may be exceptions, of course, but in general it's best to stick to one area of expertise when guest posting.

Create evergreen content

Do you want to get profit from posts for as long as possible? Evergreen content will help you, that is, one whose relevance does not fade over time. Of course, you can and should write about news and trends in the field, but it is better to leave these materials for the blog. Articles that can remain as relevant for a long time as they were at the time of their writing are more suitable as guest articles.

Here is a simple formula for efficiency: 90% evergreen content, 10% news and trending stuff.

Target relevant and powerful sites

Many SEO professionals focus on the domain authority (DA) of a site. But not only this indicator is important. You will still see a lot of sites with high DA but weak content. They can be downloaded by external links that are not related to the main theme of the site.

Mistaking a high DA for a good, relevant site and getting listed there can be a waste of all your efforts. Instead of chasing an authoritative domain, look for quality sites filled with good content written by experts.

Two things to ask beforehand are traffic metrics and whether the site is buying links.

You can check the link profile yourself or have an SEO specialist do it for you before arranging to publish. If the site links to irrelevant domains that contain low-quality content, save yourself the effort and look elsewhere.

To reiterate, the focus is on building a brand first, and then on link acquisition.

Build relationships with good resources

When you find a strong site and you are sure that your posts will be liked by its audience, do your best to place them. Some SEOs don't like this idea because more links lose value. After all, most guest posts contain only a link in the bio to the author's page.

This usually means that the first link is the strongest, and each successive one has less and less value. However, if the publication is of high quality and you influence the audience with it, forget about the value of the link. Instead, focus on building brand authority.

Never Forget About SEO

In many cases, when preparing guest posts, authors forget about search promotion, even those who are engaged in Internet marketing. We won't go into too much detail, but here's a short list of basic things to keep in mind:

Include 1 or 2 keywords in a guest post.
Keep titles about 55 characters long, but include your target keywords, numbers and parentheses if possible.
Include targeted keywords in meta descriptions of around 150 characters, with a marketing message and a clear call to action.
Use topical words that are naturally added to the content.
Use title tags with keywords correctly (related (thematic) keywords work well here).
Use bold, italics, and bullets wisely to make reading easier, increase UX, and increase time on page.
Insert links to internal / external pages, the information on which matches and complements your material.

Mention experts, quote and forget brevity

In this case, brevity is not the sister of talent. Search engines love informative articles with a fully disclosed topic, and one of the indicators for them is the length of the text. Of course, this does not mean that the volume is king, and the content can be frank water.

The material should be useful, interesting, fully revealing the topic. To add value to it, ask a question on the topic to an expert in the niche and insert a quote mentioning the author.

As for the length, there are no strict restrictions, but many sites do not accept material less than 5 thousand characters for publication. Let's say from experience: it is rare to reveal a topic in fewer characters.
