Subnautica Puzzles 
Designed to be challenging without being impossible, Subnautica’s puzzles rely on the player’s linear tendency to break down a problem into its constituent parts. A player who can’t solve a simple level will likely give up, but if you add in an element that goes back on itself, like this example where the cheese closes the door that leads to the exit, players will need to think outside the box.

It’s been in Early Access since 2014, but the developer’s commitment to crafting a satisfying experience has been rewarded with an impressively complete release. Explore the vast ocean of Planet 4546B and discover its mysteries as you make your way through sun drenched shallow coral reefs, dangerous deep-sea trenches and winding caves. Then, build yourself a vessel to escape this alien planet and its many threats.

Wall Clocks
While the main game is a science fiction survival adventure, the developers have gone a long way to make the player feel at home in the alien world. This includes their design of inventories and crafting. While No Man’s Sky bloats its inventory with items that take up no more space than the player’s own ship, Subnautica makes each storage locker a functional part of the lifepod’s interior, with a hatch that visibly opens when the user accesses it.

Similarly, the fabricator in the player’s lifepod functions as a scifi 3D printer, with each new item being seen to be physically constructed before it is transferred into inventory. These are small touches that give the player a sense of ownership over their environment, and they add to the feeling of control. This mod takes that idea one step further, allowing the player to pin the progress of ingredients needed for a blueprint right on their HUD.
