10 steps of writing a lengthy research paper

There is no single definition of a research paper, it all depends on who is writing the essay writer of that paper. For example, if you’re a student a research paper would require you to collect information about a topic, take a certain stand on that topic, and support your topic using secondary sources. For a scholar, a research paper could mean writing a scholarly article that contains results of original research using primary sources or it could be evaluating research conducted by other scholars called a “Meta-Analysis.”

It is easy to misunderstand the above definition or research paper in general. You should never mistake writing a research paper as just the collection of sources or information of different topics rather the end product of a research paper should reflect your ideas and thoughts proven by other scholars’ ideas. This is a hectic task, but nothing is impossible with a little effort. However, if you still feel burdened by the thought of a lengthy research paper consult an essay writing service to write a brilliant essay for you.

Whether you’re a student or a scholar the format of a research paper is almost always the same and it follows as such:

  1. Abstract
  2. Introduction
  3. Literature review
  4. Methodology or methods
  5. Results
  6. Discussions
  7. Recommendations
  8. Limitations
  9. Conclusion
  10. Appendix (if required)
  11. References

Although the abstract looks like the first step to writing a lengthy research paper it isn’t. The first step is to select a topic and a research question. This is by far one of the most important parts of a research paper. Choose a topic that interests you and excites you and tempts you to write on it because if it doesn’t intrigue you, it wouldn’t interest the reader as well. An essay writer can help you choose the most captivating topic for your paper, thus always feel free to contact one.

Step 2 is to narrow down your topic to some significant research question and start researching on that topic. For example, a topic could be “Legalizing abortion”, to narrow down this topic the research question can state “How can denying abortion services be a form of discrimination against women”. This way your research paper will revolve specifically around abortion being a discrimination and not around the legalization of abortion which constitutes many other factors besides discrimination. Now move forward and collect information on this research question using other scholarly journal articles, reports, government sources, etc.

The collection of information leads us to our 3rd step which is the “Literature review”, which includes an analysis of previous studies on a similar topic. It summarizes the main ideas and arguments from the scholarly articles in your own words without adding anything new. The literature review in general includes the main argument of the author, methodology, and results and findings of the paper you are using as a source to your research paper.

After you have completed your literature review in your own words, you give the methodology of the paper which explains the techniques for getting information. For example, how was the data for your paper collected? Was it through secondary or primary sources or from some essay writing service? Used a survey, if so, what approach was used for your survey?

Step 5 is to give the results and findings of your research paper. This section can include tables, figures, graphs, etc. Results are stated based on information gathered using your methodology or methods of the study. It should simply logically state your findings without any interpretation or predilection. This will be done in the next step.

The interpretation of the results and findings will occur in step 6 which can also be referred to as analysis of your findings. Using “Discussion” as your heading you will interpret the data of your findings in depth. If your results match your expectations, describe the theoretical evidence that supports your results. If results do not agree with your rationale, explain giving reasons and evidence why it could be so.

When I write my essay, I write the introduction after I am done with the result and findings section. Because it gives me a clear view of the ideas and themes, I want to introduce my reader to.

Steps 7 and 8 falls under the analysis part of your paper but are treated as a separate heading. Recommendations will be given on the basis of new ideas you discovered in your results that require potential solutions. If there is room for improvement in the under-topic idea you discuss that in the recommendation paragraph.

Limitations refer to any weakness the author finds in their writings. The limits of the study are the design or technique features that have influenced the interpretation of your results and findings. When writing the limitations paragraph make sure that you describe each limitation concisely and give reasons why a certain limitation could not be overcome using the methods of your study. You can also cite other studies that faced similar limitations.

The second last step is to conclude your study, it gives a summary of your whole paper in a few lines and includes the final remarks or claims of the findings of your research. Some scholars add results and findings in the conclusion thus you can always choose the format suitable to you.

The final and 10th step of writing a lengthy research paper is to write the abstract. Yes, you heard it right! The abstract is the last piece of writing that requires you to invest your energy. it includes your research purpose, main methodology, findings, and conclusion in less than 150 or a maximum of 200 words.
