Diplo

Thomas Wesley Pentz - ismertebb nevén Diplo - 1978. november 10-én Mississippi állambeli Tueplo-ban született. Fiatalkora nagy részét Miamiban töltötte, az egyetemet is itt kezdte el, később viszont Philadelphia-ban folytatta tanulmányait. Ott kezdett el a DJ szakmával komolyan foglalkozni. Bulikon zenélt DJ Low Budget társaságában, akivel később közösen megalapították a Hollertronix formációt. A nagy siker miatt 2 mixtapet is kiadtak: "Never Scared" a New York Times "Legjobb Albumok 2003-ból" tizes listájára is felkerült. 

Karriere

Diplo szóló debütálását a Florida című lemezével történt, ami kétszer jelent meg: egyszer CD formátumban, később pedig egy DVD is készült hozzá. A Florida DVD előtt kiadták a "Banned in Libya", ami Diplo eredeti DJ neve alatt jelent meg. 

2004-ben találkozott az egyik fellépésén a brit előadóval, M.I.A.-val. Kiadták a "Piracy Funds Terrorism" c. mixtapet, ami a az Év Albuma címet kapta meg a New York Times és a Pitchfork Media jóvoltából.

A két zenész a munkálatok során összemelegedett egymással és 5 évig tartott kapcsolatuk. Később az énekesnő megvádolta a DJt azzal, hogy 2005 tájékán direkt akadályozta azt, hogy sikeres legyen. 

Diplo közismert lett, nem volt elég neki, hogy csak bulikon lépjen fel. Ezért 2005-ben megalapította a Mad Decent zenei kiadót. Az épületet ahol pedig felvették a dalokat "The Mausoleum"-nak nevezték el, ahol többek között Shakira és Christina Aguilera is megfordult.

Major Lazer

Eleinte ő és a brit DJ, Switch volt a tagja a formációnak. A két DJ Jamaicába utazott azért, hogy ihletet merítsen az ottani kultúrából és zenéből. Diplo stílusára a kezdetektől fogva hatással volt ez a kultúra. A duó első albuma 2009-ben jelent meg, "Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do" címmel. Az album első kislemeze a "Hold The Line" és a hozzá tartozó klip jelölve lett az MTV egyik díjátadóján is. Az album több sikeres dalt is tartalmazott, mint pl. a Bubble Butt és a Pon De Floor. 2012-ben, Snoop Dogg új lemezén dolgoztak közösen, hogy együtt megalkossák Snoop Liont.

Switch a különböző nézeteikre hagyatkozva kilépett. 2011 végén Diplo bejelentette a két új tagot: Jillionaire és Walshy Fire személyében. 2013-ban Diplo lemezkiadójánál megjelent az új albumuk "Free the Universe" címen, később pedig turnéra indultak. 

2015 februárjában a Grammyn Diplo bejelntette, hogy készül a harmadik album, Peace Is The Mission néven. Az albumon olyan előadók közreműködnek, mint Ariana Grande, Ellie Goulding és Pusha T. Az első kislemez, a dán énekesnővel MØ-val és a francia producerrel, DJ Snake-el közös Lean On lett, ami a Major Lazer eddigi legsikeresebb dala. 

2015 májusában Walshy Fire bejelentette, hogy máris a következő albumon dolgoznak, ami 2017 elejére várható, az album címe pedig Music Is the Weapon lesz. Diplo később elmondta egy interjúban, hogy a belga énekesnővel Selah Sueval is készítettek dalt az új lemezre. 

2016. július 22-én kiadták "Cold Water" c. slágerüket MØ és Justin Bieber közreműnködésével, ami nagy sikereket ért el: rengeteg országban végzett első helyen a streamelési oldalak listáin.

2016. november 29-én "My Number" dallal jelentkezett a slágergyáros trió.

Jack Ü

A Jack Ü Diplo Skrilexxel való közös duója. A tehetségek együtt 2013-ban egy Mad Decent partin debütáltak. A két DJ már előtte is sokat dolgozott együtt, Diplo Skrillex lemezén, Skrillex pedig a Major Lazerén. 2014. március 30-án felléptek az Ultra Music Fesztiválon, egy 1 órás szettel. Diplo később elmondta, hogy Skrillex-el már régóta barátok, és mindig hasonló ötleteik voltak. 2015. február 26-án kiadták az első albumukat, ám a debütáló kislemez, a "Take Ü There" már 2014 szeptemberében debütált. Elmondásuk szerint a dalt mindössze 1 nap alatt vették fel. Az album legsikeresebb dala a "Where Are Ü Now" lett, ami Justin Bieberrel közös duett.

2016-ban a duó két Grammy díjat zsebelt be: az egyiket a "Legjobb Dance album" cím megnyeréséért, a másikat pedig a "Legjobb Dance Dal" minősítésért, amit Justin Bieberrel közös dalukért nyertek meg. Bieber is ezzel a dallal nyerte meg első Grammy díját.

LSD

2018-ban az LSD nevű trióval ért el hatalmas sikereket. A tagok, Diplo mellett, Sia és Labrinth. Mind a 4 daluk ismert lett: Genius (Május 3, 2018), Audio (Május 10, 2018),Thunderclouds (Augusztus 9, 2018). Mountains (November 1, 2018.)

Silk City

2018-ban közös munkába fogott Mark Ronsonnal. Leghíresebb daluk a slágergyáros Dua Lipával közös "Electricity".

Magánélete

2003 és 2008 között M.I.A-val volt együtt, és két fiuk született: Lockett Major Wesley Pentz és Lazer Lee Louis Pentz.
