Joanne Woodward

Eredeti neve: Joanne Gignilliat Trimmier Woodward.

Tanulmányait a New York-i "Neighborhood Playhouse"-ban és Lee Strasberg Actors Studiójában végezte. Férje Paul Newman volt, akivel egy Broadway-előadás alkalmával ismerkedett össze. Az 50-es években, a televíziózás hőskorában több klasszikus TV-sorozatban is szerepelt. 1957-ben megkapta a "The Three Faces of Eve" főszerepét, amelyért Oscar-díjjal jutalmazták, majd népszerűségének vége szakadt a jelentéktelennek mondható filmek és egy - a családjának szentelt - hosszabb önkéntes szünet miatt.

1968-ban a férje által rendezett "Rachel"-lel újjáéledt a karrierje, miután második Oscar-díját is elnyerte, majd a színpad, a televízió és a mozi között ingázva számos elismerést szerzett, többek között Emmy-díjat és több Oscar-jelölést. Szabadidejében a férje oldalán élénk karitatív tevékenységet folytatott, valamint a "Newman's Own" márkanevű közkedvelt élelmiszereket forgalmazó családi vállalkozásukban vesz részt.

A színészetben jelenleg is aktív, igaz, az utóbbi időben már csak szinkronizál és eddigi utolsó filmjét, Lucky Them címmel, 2013-ben mutatták be.
