Rick Riordan

ÉLETE ÉS KARRIERJE:

Rick Riordan az amerikai Texas állam-béli San Antonio városában látta meg a napvilágot, 1964. június 5-én, születését követően pedig ebben a városban is nevelkedett. Érettségit az Alamo Heights High School növendékeként szerzett, ezt követően pedig a North Texas State University zenei szakán folytatott tanulmányokat, abban a reményben, hogy gitáros lesz belőle. Hamarosan azonban megváltoztak a jövőjével kapcsolatos elképzelései, és átiratkozott a University of Texas at Austin oktatási programjába, angol és történelem szakra. Tanár szakos diplomát ebből a két tárgyból szerzett, a University of Texas at San Antonio hallgatójaként. Diplomáját követően nyolc évig angolt és társadalmi tanulmányokat tanított a San Francisco városban található Presidio Hill School tanáraként. 

1985. június 5-én házasodott meg: feleségével, Becky Riordannel a közös születésnapjukon keltek egybe. Két fiuk van, Haley és Patrick. 2013 júniusában San Antonio-ból Boston-ba költöztek, a nagyobbik fiú, Haley egyetemi tanulmányai miatt.

Karrierje során Riordan számos sikerkönyvsorozatot írt. Első igazi sikert aratott könyv, a Tres Navarre elnyerte a Shamus, az Anthony és az Edgar-díjakat is.

A Percy Jackson-könysorozat történetét eredetileg estimesének találta ki nagyobbik fia, Haley számára. A fiút ADHD-val (figyelemhiányos hiperaktivitás) és diszlexiával diagnosztizálták, ez ihlette a főszereplő, Percy Jackson karakterét is, hogy a kisfiú könnyebben azonosuljon vele. A sorozat első kötetét, a Percy Jackson és a Villámtolvajt 2005-ben adta ki. Az első kötetet négy másik követte: az utolsó, az Utolsó olimposzi című kötet 2009-ben jelent meg. A könyvsorozat filmes jogait a Twentieth Century Fox vásárolta meg, és 2010-ben adta ki az első könyv filmváltozatát, Logan Lerman-nal és Alexandra Daddario-val a főszerepben. A sorozatból napjainkban a Netflix és a Disney+ készít élőszereplős sorozatot. 

A Percy Jackson-sorozat sikerét követően Riordan kiadta a Kane Krónikák című könyvsorozatot - ezez a könyvek az egyiptomi mitológia korába kalauzolja el az olvasót. Emellett megírta a Percy Jackson folytatását, további öt kötetet, Az Olimposz Hősei címen.

Mitológiai témában írott könyvein kívül Riordan részt vett a 39 Kulcs című könyvsorozat megírásában is. A könyvsorozatnak több elemét is ő írta, így hozzá köthető a The Maze of Bones is.
