Ahn Sung Ki 1952. Január elsején látta meg a napvilágot Daegu-ban, Dél-Koreában. Vallását tekintve római katolikus. Középiskoláját a Kyundong junior high school-ban végezte, ahol Cho Yong Pil énekes is végzett. Első filmes szerepét 1959-ben alig 5 évesen kapta a Twilight Train-ben. Ezt követően a mai napig 99 filmben szerepelt. Később a Hankuk egyetemen végzett vietnámi szakon. Mivel több nyelven is beszél így a Unicef kinevezte dél-koreai megbízottjának, több repülőn is látható az arca, amely koreába megy. Sorkatonai kötelezettségét 74-76-ig végezte el.
A 80-as évek előtt is játszott több filmben is, de igazán a 80-as évek után lendült be a karrierje. Kiváló színészi munkássága miatt több díjat is bezsebelt karrierje során. Eddigi legújabb filmjei a Trot, melyben Joo Sang Wook-kal szerepel, a The Divine Move, a Tabloid Truth és a Revivre. Ezekben a filmekben a 2014-es  évben szerepelt.
