Fekerült két dala a Judy és az The Object of My Affection című dalok a Boswell Sisters albumára.

Karrierje

Big-band singing

If You Can't Sing It) You 'll Have to Swing  It (Mr. Paganini). 1939-től ő lett a banda vezetője, a nevük "Ella Fitzgerald and her Famous Orchestra" lett.

The Decca years

1942-ben otthagyta a bandát és szolókarrierbe kezdett. Leszerződtette a Decca lemezkiadó, és olyan előadókkal dolgozott együtt min a The Ink Spots, Louis Jordan és a The Delta Rhythm Boys. Mialatt a kiadónál volt kezdett el dolgozni a jazz imresszárió Norman Granz-al és gyakran feltűnt a Jazz at the Philharmonic koncerteken. A bebop jelentős változott hozott a vokáljába, valamint hatással volt rá a Dizzy Gillespie big band munkássága is.

Átkerülés a Verve-hez és a nagy siker
