Ray Charles

Ray Charles Robinson 1930. szeptember 23-án született Georgiában.Afroamerikai zongorista,énekes.Tehetségét korán felismerte és elismerte a kritika.A soul,a rythm&blues és a jazz területén maradandót alkotott.6 éves korában glaukóma következtében elveszítette a látását.15 évesen mindkét szülőjét elvesztette.A vakok St.Augutinei iskolájában tanulták a zenélést.Szülei halála után Floridában zenélt,majd Seattleba költözött.1952-ben szerződtette az Atlantic lemezkiadó.Ettől kezdve használta a Ray Charles nevet.Ezután dalai rendszeresen felkerültek a sikerlistákra.A 60-as évek alején az ABC-hez igazolt.Itt nagyobb szabadságot kapott saját felvételeinek irányításában.A 70-es években inkább csak koncertezett.1971-ben Magyarországra is eljutott.Zenetörténészek szerint ő volt a legnagyob gatással a fekete zenére.1980-tól egyre többet szerepelt filmekben,ahol magát kellett alakítania.1991-ben Grammy-díjat kapott a I'll Be Good To You című daláért.1992-ben pedig NARAS életműdíjat kapott.A Rock Dicsőségcsarnokában 1994-ben kapott helyet.2000 júliusában Olaszországban és Horvátországban koncertezett.Élete végéig aktív zenész volt.2004. június 10-én halt meg Beverly Hillsben.
